Using a car for business travel does expose drivers to additional risk, if only because of higher miles travelled. Most insurance policies only cover domestic and social use, some of the additional issues that will need to be covered are:
- Comprehensive
- Business Use Class 1 (Owner-driver)
- Business Use Class 2 (Any other driver) - optional
- Samples, Tools and Goods (if not covered by your employer)
- New for Old Cover
- Social & Domestic Use
- Carriage of Passengers (Not fare paying)
- Replacement Car
- 12 points plus
- Foreign use cover
No Claims Bonus
It is recognised that many company car drivers may not have their own car insurance policy and No Claims Bonus. As a member of a properly designed company car allowance scheme, your employer can arrange for you to be given a letter confirming your driver history for the last two-five years, which should secure you a level of No Claims Bonus discount. In addition, by using one of SJF approved insurance brokers, you may be able to enjoy the benefit of corporate insurance rates, at least for the first year.
Payment Protection Plan Insurance
Drivers have the option to take out cover on their monthly finance payments. This can include cover for redundancy, resignation, sickness, disability or accident. Cover can also extend to pregnancy. Details are available on request from SJF
